Satyam, whose full name was Chellapilla Satyanarayana Sastry, was born in 1933 in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. He started his career in the music industry by working as an assistant to music director P. Adinarayana Rao for the film “Suvarna Sundari” in 1957. However, it wasn’t until 1967 that he made his debut as a music director with the Telugu film “Pala Manasulu.” Over the years, Satyam became known for his contribution to the Telugu and Kannada film industries from the 1960s through the 1980s. He earned the nickname “Andhra R.D. Burman” for his unique style and contribution to music. Some of his notable works include composing for films like “Lady James Bond” (1972), “Pistolwaali” (1972), “Rani Aur Jaani” (1973), “Johny Mera Yaar” (1973), and “Alakh Niranjan” (1975)​ (Myswar). Among his famous songs are compositions for “Billa Ranga” in 1984, where S. P. Balasubrahmanyam sang four of Satyam’s compositions including “Dekh Lo Mudke” and “Naam Mera Billa.” Other memorable movies he composed include “Anokha Shiv Bhakt” (1978), “Bahadur Bachche” (1977), and “Mahashakti” (1980).
