Sudhir Phadke, also known as Babuji, was born on July 25, 1919, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, and had a music career that spanned over five decades, making significant contributions to the Marathi film industry and Sugam Sangeet. His music direction career began at the Prabhat Film Company in 1946, and he is celebrated for composing music for many Marathi and Hindi films. One of his most famous works, “Geet Ramayana,” based on G.D. Madgulkar’s verses, remains popular to this day. Phadke directed music for several notable films and songs, including “Jyoti Kalash Chhalke” from “Bhabhi Ki Chudiyan,” “Pehli Tarikh,” and the regimental song of the Maratha Light Infantry, “Maratha Sphurti Geet.” He received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi for “Ha Maza Marg Ekla” in 1963 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1991, showcasing his esteemed position in the field of music direction.
