Malkit Singh, born in 1963 in Hussainpur, Punjab, is an iconic England-based Punjabi bhangra singer recognized for pioneering the global reach of bhangra music. Moving to Birmingham in 1984, he quickly became a musical sensation, particularly known for hits like “Gur Nalo Ishq Mitha“, “Tootak Tootak Tootiyan“, and “Jind Mahi” from the soundtrack of “Bend It Like Beckham”. Singh’s worked in numerous albums and singles, marking significant milestones in the bhangra and Indi-pop genres. Notable among his recognitions are the “Commitment to Scene” award at the UK Asian Music Awards in 2005 and the prestigious appointment as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2008.
