Mukri (born as Mohammed Umar Mukri) was an Indian actor born on January 5, 1922, in Uran, Maharashtra. Though primarily known for his work in Bollywood films as a comedian, Mukri’s career spanned over five decades, where he appeared in more than 600 films. He started his career in the film industry as an assistant director before making his acting debut in the 1945 film “Pratima.” Mukri was renowned for his unique style and impeccable comic timing, often playing the role of a sidekick or a humorous character. Some of his notable films include “Amar Akbar Anthony,” “Lawaaris,” and “Coolie.” He worked alongside legendary actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar, and Raj Kapoor. Beyond his acting, he also contributed vocally to the music industry by lending his voice to unique, comedic tracks, officially singing in “Ek Chhokaria” from Heera and “Kali Kali Saree Mein” from Upaasna. Mukri’s performances added a special charm to the films, making them memorable. He passed away on September 4, 2000, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and entertainment.
