Surjit Bindrakhia, born Surjit Bains on 15 April 1962, was a most popular singer in Punjabi music, known for his unique singing style that included the use of hekh, where he could sustain a single note for up to 42 seconds. Over his career lasting more than a decade, Surjit Bindrakhia released 32 solo audio cassettes and produced hit songs such as “Shorat Sharab Sohni Naar“.” In 2004, at the Filmfare Awards, he was honored with a special jury award for his significant contributions to Punjabi music. The singer’s journey came to a sudden end on 17 November 2003 when he passed away from a silent heart attack. Bindrakhia’s legacy continues through releases and tributes from other artists, such as Babbu Maan and DJ Frenzy, who have celebrated his contribution to Punjabi music.
