Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan was born on April 2, 1902, in Kasur, Punjab, which is now in Pakistan. He was a legendary Hindustani classical vocalist, renowned for his powerful voice and mastery of the Patiala Gharana. Khan Saab, as he was fondly called, began his musical journey under the guidance of his father, Ali Baksh Khan, and uncle, Kale Khan. His career took off when he performed at the All India Music Conference in Calcutta in 1938, captivating audiences with his renditions of khayal, thumri, and ghazals. Some of his most popular songs include “Yaad Piya Ki Aaye,” “Prem Jogan Ban Ke,” and “Bhor Bhaye.” He also lent his voice to several Bollywood films, with music directors like Naushad and Shankar-Jaikishan seeking his expertise. Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan collaborated with notable co-singers and lyricists, leaving a lasting impact on Indian classical music.
