Composer Jaikishan Dayabhai Panchal

Jaikishan Dayabhai Panchal, born on November 4, 1929, in Vansda, Gujarat, was an Indian music composer and one half of the iconic duo Shankar–Jaikishan. He began his musical journey learning the harmonium and received formal training from Sangeet Visharad Wadilalji and Prem Shankar Nayak. After moving to Mumbai, he became a disciple of Vinayak Tambe. Jaikishan’s partnership with Shankar Singh Raghuvanshi led to numerous classic Bollywood soundtracks in the 1950s and 1960s. One of their memorable songs is “Mera Joota Hai Japani” from the film Shree 420 (1955).
