Ram Ganguly, born on August 5, 1928, was an Indian music composer and sitarist. A disciple of Ustad Allaudin Khan, he showcased his musical talents at a young age, performing at the All India Congress Conference at seventeen. This led to a position at New Theatres in Calcutta, where he collaborated with Prithviraj Kapoor and contributed to Prithvi Theatres. Ganguly composed music for Raj Kapoor’s directorial debut, Aag (1948), featuring songs like “Zinda Hoon Is Tarah” sung by Mukesh. However, a misunderstanding during the production of Barsaat (1949) led to his replacement by Shankar-Jaikishan. Ganguly’s later works include Banwasi (1948) and Gawaiya (1954).
