Music Director Hariprasad Chaurasia

Hariprasad Chaurasia, born on July 1, 1938, is a popular music director and classical flutist from India, known for his mastery over the bansuri in Hindustani classical music. Despite initial resistance from his father, who wanted him to become a wrestler, Chaurasia pursued music, learning first from his neighbor and then under the guidance of Bholanath Prasanna. His career took a significant turn when he joined All India Radio, Cuttack, as a composer and performer. Chaurasia’s contributions extend beyond classical music, collaborating with Shivkumar Sharma as Shiv-Hari and composing for many popular movies like “Silsila” and “Chandni“. Chaurasia’s famous works include compositions for Bollywood films such as “Silsila”, “Chandni”, “Lamhe“, “Sahibaan” and “Darr“. His dedication to music and unique flute-playing technique have earned him prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan in 1992. the Padma Vibhushan in 2000, Hafiz Ali Khan Award-2000, Dinanath Mangeshkar Award – 2000.
