Music Director Junoon (Band)

Junoon, often known as “the U2 of Pakistan,” was formed in 1990 by guitarist, songwriter, and medical doctor Salman Ahmad. The band, which also includes bassist Brian O’Connell and vocalist Ali Azmat, gained fame with a rock sound infused with Sufi spirituality. They are pioneers of the “Sufi rock” sound, which mixes traditional Sufi music rhythms with rock and roll. Junoon’s music is known for its powerful fusion of Eastern melodies and Western rock music, and they have performed worldwide. Famous Songs Directed by Junoon include “Sayonee” from the album “Azadi,” released in 1997, “Jazba-e-Junoon” and “Yaar Bina” from their third album, “Inquilaab,” are also widely appreciated. They have received numerous awards, including the “Best International Group” at the Channel V Music Awards in 1998. The song “Sayonee” from their fourth album “Azadi” was particularly significant, earning them the “Best Music Album” award at the Lux Style Awards.
