Music Director Pankaj Mullick

Pankaj Mullick, born on May 10, 1905, in Kolkata, was a talent in Indian music, particularly in film and non-film music, as well as the songs of Rabindra Sangeet. Starting his career in the 1930s, Mullick’s journey in music is contributed as a singer, composer, and actor. His life took a significant turn when he was trained by the renowned music teacher Durgadas Bandopadhyay, and later, he was profoundly influenced by Rabindranath Tagore’s work, leading him to compose music for Tagore’s poems. Mullick’s contributions were not just limited to performances; he was instrumental in bringing music to the radio, joining the Indian Broadcasting Company in 1927. Mullick’s fame as a music director with New Theatres studio in Kolkata, where he composed music for a multitude of Bengali and Hindi films. Some of his famous songs include “Piya Milan Ko Jana” from Kapal Kundala (1939), “So Ja Rajkumari” from Zindagi (1940), and “Duniya Rang Rangili Baba” from Dharti Mata (1938). His work earned him numerous honour, including the Padma Shri in 1970 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1972, as his lifetime contributions to Indian cinema​​.
