Music Director Sardul Singh Kwatra

Sardul Singh Kwatra was a famous music director from India, born in 1928 in Lahore, Punjab Province, British India. He had a great love for music from a young age and started learning classical music in school. Sardul moved with his family to Bombay after the partition of India in 1947 and began his career in music. Sardul worked on both Hindi and Punjabi films and was considered one of the top music directors for Punjabi films in India. Some of the famous songs directed by Sardul Singh Kwatra include tunes from the movies “Posti” (1950), where he first introduced Asha Bhosle as a playback singer, and “Kaude Shah” (1953), which was another hit at the box office with its music reaching new heights of popularity. His work on “Mirza Sahiban” in Hindi cinema introduced him as a music director in Hindi cinema, with Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi singing most of its songs. The song “Nahin Ris Punjab Di” from “Mirza Sahiban” became very popular all over Punjab. Sardul Singh Kwatra received the honor for his ability to mix traditional Punjabi folk music with the demands of film music.
