Music Director Shivkumar Sharma

Shivkumar Sharma was born on January 13, 1938, in Jammu, India. He was a classical musician who played the santoor, an instrument that is a type of hammered dulcimer. Shivkumar Sharma turned the santoor from a little-known folk instrument into a classical one that people from all over India and the world admired. He worked hard to make it possible to use the santoor in Indian classical music, and he created his unique style and playing techniques. He began playing music in movies as a music director in the 1960s. Shivkumar Sharma, together with the flutist Hariprasad Chaurasia and the guitarist Brij Bhushan Kabra, created an album called “Call of the Valley” (1967). Shivkumar Sharma, together with Hariprasad Chaurasia, directed music under the name Shiv-Hari. Some of their famous songs are from big Bollywood films includes “Mere Haathon Mein Nau Nau Choodiyan” from the movie “Chandni” (1989), “Chandni O Meri Chandni” from the same movie, and “Dekha Ek Khwab” from “Silsila” (1981). His work has not only made people love these films more but also brought new respect to Indian classical music. He received the National Film Award for Best Music Direction for the film “Darr” (1993), where songs like “Jadu Teri Nazar” captured the hearts of the audience. He also got the Padma Shri in 1991 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2001.
