Baba Sehgal, born Harjeet Singh Sehgal on November 23, 1965, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, is celebrated as the first Indian rapper. Launching his career in the early 90s with hits like “Thanda Thanda Pani,” “Manjula,” and “Dil Dhadke,” Sehgal became a staple on MTV India and contributed significantly to the Indipop scene. His notable albums include “Dilruba” (1990), “Alibaba” (1991), and “Thanda Thanda Pani” (1992), which was a monumental success, selling over 5 million cassettes. Apart from his music career, Sehgal has also ventured into acting, making his debut in the Bollywood film “Miss 420” and contributing to its soundtrack.
