Jal, a pop rock band from Lahore, Pakistan, started making waves in the music scene in 2002. Founded by Goher Mumtaz, the band originally included Atif Aslam as a vocalist before he embarked on a solo career. Jal quickly became a household name with their debut album “Aadat” in 2004, which included hits like “Aadat” and “Lamhay”. These songs not only topped charts in Pakistan but also made their way into Bollywood movies, further solidifying Jal’s popularity. The song “Aadat” was famously used in the Bollywood film “Kalyug” while “Lamhay” was featured in “Zeher“. Their subsequent albums, “Boondh” and “Pyaas“, released in 2007 and 2013 respectively, continued their success, with “Boondh” winning the Lux Style Award for Best Album. The track “Sajni” from “Boondh” became particularly popular, topping music charts across South Asia. They won the MTV Asia Award for Favorite Artist India in 2006 and received multiple nominations and awards at the Indus Music Awards and Sahara Sangeet Awards for their songs and albums. Notable awards include Best Lyrics, Best Composition, and Best Song for “Aadat”, and Best Pop Group for their album “Aadat” at the Sahara Sangeet Awards.
