Sharda Rajan Iyengar, known professionally as Sharda, was a celebrated figure in the Bollywood music scene, particularly noted for her contributions during the 1960s and 1970s. Born on October 25, 1937, in Tamil Nadu, Sharda embarked on her singing career with her distinct voice and unique style, leaving a mark with her songs in several Hindi films. Some of her most memorable tracks include “Titli Udi” from the movie Suraj (1966), “Dekho Mera Dil Machal Gaya” also from Suraj, and “Baat Zara Hai Aapas Ki” from Jahan Pyar Miley (1970), the latter winning her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer​. Beyond playback singing, Sharda also ventured into music direction in the mid-1970s, directing music for films like Maa Behen Aur Biwi and others. Her talent extended across languages and genres, including her notable Ghazal album “Andaaz-e-Bayan Aur”, which featured compositions of Mirza Ghalib and was released in 2007.
