Hindi ChaalBaaz (1989)

ChaalBaaz, a 1989 Bollywood comedy film, was directed by Pankaj Parashar and produced by A. Poorna Chandra Rao. This film is a remake of the 1972 classic “Seeta Aur Geeta.” The movie was released on December 8, 1989.

The movie features Sridevi in dual roles as twin sisters Anju and Manju, separated at birth and raised in drastically different environments. Sridevi’s performance was highly acclaimed, earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. The film also stars Rajinikanth as Jaggu, Sunny Deol as Suraj, and Anupam Kher as the antagonist Tribhuvan. Supporting roles include Rohini Hattangadi as Amba, Annu Kapoor as Daddu, and Shakti Kapoor as Balma. The film also features a young Aftab Shivdasani as Raju, the twin sisters’ brother. The music for ChaalBaaz was composed by the legendary duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal, with lyrics penned by Anand Bakshi. The soundtrack became very popular, with memorable songs like “Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai,” sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy and Amit Kumar, and “Tera Beemar Mera Dil,” featuring Mohammed Aziz and Kavita Krishnamurthy. The movie generated a gross income of est. ₹15 crore (equivalent to ₹160 crore worldwide at the box office.
