Singer Junoon (Band)

Junoon, a Sufi rock band hailing from Lahore, Pakistan, was formed in 1990 by Salman Ahmad. Ahmad, the visionary behind the band, sought to merge Western rock music with Eastern Sufi mysticism. Junoon gained a prominent place in the music world with their unique sound and profound lyrics, addressing socio-political issues and promoting peace. The band’s line-up originally included Salman Ahmad as the lead guitarist, Ali Azmat on vocals, and Brian O’Connell on bass guitar, with Nusrat Hussain as the initial keyboardist before pursuing a solo career. Junoon’s rise to fame was bolstered by their second album, “Talaash” (1993), which contained politically charged songs that sometimes led to censorship in Pakistan. Junoon’s musical journey includes many hits like “Sayonee” from the album “Azadi” (1997), which received international awards and platinum status in India. Other notable tracks include “Bulleya” from the album “Parvaaz” (1999), and “Jazba-e-Junoon”, which became an anthem during the Cricket World Cup. The band has received numerous awards, including the “Best International Group” at the Channel [V] Music Awards in 1998 for “Sayonee”. Some other notable songs are Heeray, Sunn, and Khwab
