Kishore Kumar, born Abhas Kumar Ganguly on August 4, 1929, in Khandwa, now in Madhya Pradesh, is celebrated as one of the greatest playback singers in the history of Indian cinema. He was skilled in many music styles and could sing in various Indian languages. Over his 40-year career, this made his work very special and loved by many. Most popular songs include “Mere Sapnon Ki Rani” from Aradhana, “Roop Tera Mastana” from the same movie, and “Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si” from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi. Kumar won 8 Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer and was posthumously awarded the Lata Mangeshkar Award by the Madhya Pradesh government.
